People keep saying low voter turnout is 'a threat to democracy' but they don't say how it is a threat. It is one of those phrases that become the flavour of the month. No one saying this 'threat to democracy' cliche is listening but those who don't vote are saying that there is nothing to vote for. To force Jamaicans to hold their noses and vote for the current crap that is our politics would be a disgrace. Mr. Holness has no mandate. The vast majority of us cannot stand either party. Both the PNP and JLP are failures. The JLP has no credibility with the people who they have to govern. If you believe Mr. Holness' promise to '..to make the Government of the highest integrity, dignity, and efficiency', I suggest you sleep with your doors and windows open tonight. Only the most rabid of tribalist will take this promise seriously. This situation, this contradiction, cannot continue for much longer as eventually the  people not voting will have to become less apathetic and get off of our butts and do something drastic. Both parties should just do us a favour and get lost as that would create the political space for a new beginning but that ain't gonna happen - unless the citizenry stop looking for a visa and decide to take our country back from those who have hijacked it. Civil society are you up to the task?
